Contemplation on "Round Dance in Tulips # 6"

I like to combine cool and warm colors. Their both harmonious and conflicting relationality creates an illusion of vibration, generating energy and movement in the painting. It’s as though the colors are alive, vibrating in their own rhythm.

The forms within the painting appear and disappear—a deliberate uncertainty I embrace. Whether arriving or fading, this non-fixity creates a sense of movement. This rawness and instability allow the imagery to exist in a vibrant flux, like music, shape-shifting and flowing.

For me, colors are like music—they interact and resonate. I enjoy leaving lines from the initial drawing visible in the final painting. These oil pastel lines skim through the painted colors, adding depth and texture. Here, they weave through the tulips, creating volume and enhancing the swaying rhythm of the piece.

The dancers in this work merge with the field of tulips. At first glance, the painting may seem like a chaotic mess of shapes and colors, but as you slow down and observe, the imagery surfaces. The dancers blend with the tulips, their movements repeating in a swaying pattern—a round dance connecting everything on the canvas.

All elements—bodies, tulips, grasses, and undefined shapes—belong to this shared rhythm. The repeated movement pattern across the dancers reinforces a sense of togetherness, of dancing with the earth itself. The surface texture, with its random, spontaneous gestures, reflects the fleeting, momentary nature of dancing.

"Round Dance in Tulips # 6" is more than an image; it’s an invitation to move, to feel, and to listen to the colors as if they were a melody.
