While operating within the set rules of Landscape painting, I employ perspective and color in an imaginative and radical way to invoke a contemplation of the arch (the first principle of life) and rejuvenate the mind and body. When creating Landscape paintings I only sketch in nature to transmit the distinct and spiritual experiences I have with the trees, the mountains, and the hills. Moreover, my landscapes evoke the early stages of earth’s formation where a primordial life force is present through subtle depictions of early life forms, volcanic eruptions, and rifts. As I play with pure form, trees and hills are stripped to their geometric essences. My use of perspective and deep-layering of planes creates a near 3D experience of nature, and reflects upon the healing powers of nature. During my September camping trip at the Yosemite National Park, I was reminded of this yet again and produced my series titled Yosemite.
